A door that sticks or won’t close properly is usually caused by humidity making the wood expand, or loose hinges.
What You’ll Need A screwdriver, sandpaper or a hand plane, and wood sealer.
Step 1: Tighten the Hinges Loose hinges are the most common cause of a sticking door. Tighten all hinge screws first before anything else.
Step 2: Find Where It Sticks Close the door slowly and watch where it catches. Mark the spot with a pencil.
Step 3: Sand the Sticking Area Use coarse sandpaper to sand down the marked area. Remove just enough wood to allow the door to close smoothly.
Step 4: Use a Hand Plane For more serious sticking, a hand plane removes wood more efficiently than sandpaper. Work in the direction of the wood grain.
Step 5: Seal the Wood Apply wood sealer to the sanded area to prevent moisture from causing the problem again.
